The Situation
The Trustees were responsible for overseeing a 330 member defined benefit scheme. They had suffered with poor service and a lack of communication service from their long-standing auditors, and wanted a fresh perspective.

The Solution
The Trustees liked Ash Shaw's upfront planning where we agreed what will happen during the audit. During our work, we also noted that one of our specialist tools would help them produce their accounts more easily. The Trustees liked our proposed solution and could see exactly how it would benefit them and decided to make it part of their process.

As a new auditor, we also agreed to perform a site visit to each of the employers' payroll sites which highlighted an error in the data that was being used. This work was valued by the trustees and realised their fears. The trustees have introduced new procedures to reduce the risk of the same error occurring again.

As part of our audit, we attended the trustees' meeting to report our findings and answer any questions the trustees may have on our work, and discuss areas where they could improve their controls. We also asked the trustees how we could make our service to them even better.
